Juan, the Hermes head counselor, lead us through the morning camp activities. And before I knew it , lunch time. After that, I had free time. I walked around a bit. There was an intense soccer between the Demeter campers and the other Hermes kids. I yelled a cheer to the Hermes cabin. It just felt right since I was staying in their cabin-but what if I was a daughter of Demeter. (I have a mortal dad, okay.)  I spotted Juan. Whoa, he's so good-looking-I mean so good player at soccer. Yeah. I passed the merienda hall and a thousand good smelling scents met me. I inhaled the scent. We were having ensaymada for merienda-I should be first in line. Suddenly, I heard a voice: My daughter, come to me..
"What?" The voice had come from the woods. It was almost a whisper. But I was no where near the woods and I could have sworn I heard the little voice coming from the woods. It must be the nymphs. But my daughter????
My daughter come to me….
There was that voice again. I should tell someone about this. I looked around to see if there was anybody there. None. Then, I did the obvious: I followed the voice.

I walked until I got to a clearing. The voice still whispering in my head. It grew louder. Soon, it was screaming into my ears. I clutched at my ears in a desperate attempt to shut the voices up. "Who are you?!"
"Who are you?"
I spun around to see a girl about eighteen years old walk towards me. She was tall and beautiful. Her wavy, flower adorned hair was lush brown and extended to her hips. She was wearing a green sleeveless top (which accentuated her curves) and brown shorts. Her wrists and ankles were decorated with tiny bells that tinkled while she walked. Her eyes were a deep shade of green.
"Who are you?", she asked again
"I-I'm Bree", I sais, "Are you a dryad?"
"I guess you could say that." She sat down on the dirt and motioned me to sit. "And I assume that you are a camper here."
"Yes." I felt suspicious about this girl. I sat in front of her. "If you're a dryad, why haven't I seen you around here before?"
"Unlike others, I don't like to come out and fraternize with the gods' children that much."
"Do you have a name?"
"Name? Hmm" She made a face. "Call me….Ali."
"Is that some kind of tree?" She laughed.
Then, she asked me a whole bunch of other stuff. Like how is the camp treating me, do I like it, where am I from, and such. She even asked me if I had a boyfriend. That was embarrassing. Okay, I confess. I lied at some answers. It's just that I don't trust her. She wouldn't let me ask her questions….so yeah. Then the question I dreaded came.
"Who's your godly parent?"
"I-I don't know." I looked down. "I'm unclaimed."
"Oh." I saw a smile tugging at her lips. "Don't worry, you'll get claimed."
I managed a smile. "So who do you think's my mom? Athena? Demeter? Hecate? Please don't let it be Aphrodite."
Ali frowned. "Why are we talking about the Greek gods?"
"This is a camp for the children of the Greek gods, is it not?" I chuckled.
"That doesn't mean that only Greek gods can have children." She was still frowning when she turned away from me. She started to say something but I beat her to it.
"Yeah, of course. Other deities could have children too. Like the titans or-!"
"But Greece isn't the only country with mythology!" she interrupted "Mythology is present if every country. And if mythology is present then that means there are gods present." She said the word mythology as if it was the most horrible thing in the world. "And besides, there are other forces on this mountain at work aside from the Greek gods." She rolled her eyes at me. Inirapan niya ako?!
"I'm sorry, I don't get what you're saying."
"All I'm saying is that Greek gods are not the only deities on this mountain. And this camp should know that." She was getting really angry. Suddenly, the leaves of the trees rustled even there was no wind."This is something that you, too, should know."
I staggered backward. "What is this that I should know? And if I should know this, then just tell me." I held back my fear.
"This is," she hesitated, "her mountain."
I stared at her incredously. The leaves' rustling were getting louder. "Who is 'her'?"
"You will know soon enough-!"
"HEY BREE!" The voice sent a warm feeling over me. "What are you doing there?"
"Oh, hey Juan." I struggled to keep my voice under control as I stoop up. "I was just talking to-?" I looked around to see that Ali had disappeared.
"Talking to?"
I shook my head. "Nothing. So how was the soccer game?"
"We lost."
"It's alright."
"By the way, it's dinner and we should get going. I had to look for you since you were the only one missing. Didn't want that to happen. And it's your favorite, sinigang"
Kinilig ako! He looked for me. Did that mean that he was worried for me. I don't care. Pero kilig to the bones ako!
"Okay, let's go eat dinner!"

After the campfire, we all trailed sleepily to our cabins. At the corner of my eye, I noticed a statue a few feet behind our cabin. Whoa, how did I know that it was there. I pulled Juan from the group.
"What?", he demanded
I pulled him towards the statue. Up close, it was covered in vines and looked like it was not well kept. It was a statue of a woman with an outreached arm that was flocked with birds.
"Oh gods." Juan murmured behind me. He rushed forward to the statue. "It's oh-how could this happen." He pulled out a switchblade and started to cut the vines that entangled the statue. "If I were her, I would be insulted." He continued cutting. I heard him say a prayer under his breath.
Through the vines, I made out her face. It was beautiful. Familiar.
"Juan, who is this?"
He exhaled deeply. "This is the deity who owns this mountain."
"Who owns this mountain?"
He smiled weakly. "Makiling." I was still lost. He touched the base of the statue. "This statue is Maria Makiling."
I inhaled sharply. This is her mountain. You should know that. I stared at the statue with fear in my eyes. I finally knew who the statue looked like. She looked like Ali.
I doubled over from the shock. "Bree!" Juan caught me. The leaves rustled violently even with no wind. I heard animals in the distance. I was sure the camp would get up because of the noise. Then a light covered me.
"Gods, it can't be!" Juan shouted as he let go of me
I stood up and looked at the Maria Makiling statue. It was bathed in light, too. The vines coiling around it were gone. I looked at Juan who had a look of surprise and fear on his face. I heard other sounds-campers. Juan pointed to something on top of my head.

I refused to look up. I already knew who had claimed me.
PLEASE TAKE TIME TO READ THIS. I WORKED HARD ON IT.

This is for :iconpinoydemigods: co-founder contest.

This story is about an unclaimed demigod named Bree. She goes to CHB Philippines which is located on Mt. Makiling. She hopes the she would be claimed, but after meeting Ali, she thinks otherwise.

I hope you like this. I also hope you can guess who her godly parent is. Feel free to comment and critique. (There is a first part to this. I cut it because it might be to long.)

May I thank:icongameaddict4: for his CHB Philippines map. (I used it as reference.) It was really useful. :D

Nice work sir, thank you for posting this

Hi. my name is Jovencio Jimenez and Im a researcher about Philippine mythology.. I would just like to ask if you could participate in a survey that I made for my thesis, this involves the effect of an innovation of Philippine Mythology, by applying illustration from culture mapping. "Culture mapping", a method created by the author to create distinction of the gods over other cultures. for more information you can visit my page at at www.facebook.com/mitopilipinas…;

the survey only consists of 13 questions, and would take only 3-5 minutes of your time.

hoping for your response

salamat
